Are volunteers screened?

Who will I be matched with?
AGE Y☮UR WAY will provide you with a few volunteer profiles that match your interests, or values where possible and you pick the volunteer you want to connect with.
Are the volunteers checked and screened?
Yes. Volunteers go through an application and screening process. Your comfort and safety matter.
How often would someone visit or call me?
That’s up to you. Visits can happen weekly, bi-weekly, or on another schedule that makes you feel comfortable. Nothing is forced.
Do visits have to be in my home?
No. Visits can be:

How does Age Your Way protect the safety of seniors?
Safety is the foundation of Age Your Way. Every volunteer must complete an in depth interview, reference checks & Vulnerable Sector Check, follow our Volunteer Standards and Code of Conduct, and agree to our safety guidelines before being matched with a senior.
Our goal is to create meaningful companionship while maintaining a safe and respectful environment for every senior.
Do volunteers undergo background checks?
Yes. All volunteers must complete a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) through their local police service and reference checks before they can participate in the program. This screening helps ensure volunteers do not have a history of offences involving vulnerable individuals.
What is a Vulnerable Sector Check?
A Vulnerable Sector Check is a type of police background check required when working with vulnerable populations, including seniors. It helps identify individuals who may pose a risk and is an important safeguard used by responsible organizations.
Are volunteers verified before meeting a senior?
Yes. Volunteers must complete several steps before being approved, including:
- Identity verification
- Reference checks
- Vulnerable Sector Check
- Signed agreement to our Volunteer Code of Conduct

What happens if someone reports a safety concern?
Age Your Way takes all safety concerns seriously. If a concern is reported, we will review the situation promptly and take appropriate action, which may include suspending or removing a volunteer from the program.

No. Visits can take place wherever the senior feels most comfortable. This may include their home or a public setting such as a coffee shop or park. Participation in outings is always optional.
